Review | Avène Antirougeurs Fort Relief Concentrate

Lately, I have been getting some intense redness on my cheeks, on the area right underneath my eyes. It had never happened before, but when I found myself in warmer rooms, it was a very intense color and the patches were very defined. I also had some dry, red circles that were really apparent. No matter how much moisturizer I put on it, it was still dry, which was very frustrating.

Avène’s Antirougeurs Fort Relief Concentrate is aimed at reducing redness of all kinds, including “intermitent redness, persistent redness, dilated and enlarged blood vessels, bumps or pimples and post-laser redness” (from their website).

Having done some research and narrowing down from what is available in store where I live,  opted for this product. The final showdown was between this and Bioderma Sensibio AR. Although Bioderma’s description of the type of skin the line is targeted at sounds exactly like mine, the product seemed more like a daily anti-redness cream rather than an intense serum like I wanted.

After the first use, I could already see results. Although the redness wasn’t miraculously gone, it was reduced very significantly. The “circles” are almost completely gone. Plus, my skin doesn’t feel so tight and dry anymore. Not much of it is needed since it is so thick, so I think it will last quite a long time. The applicator only allows a thin line of product to come out, which is nice, since it’s not exactly cheap.

The only thing that can be considered a disadvantage (apart from the price, especially in the US site) is the fact that it is very oily when first applied. It does come with the territory, since the redness needs extreme moisture, but it could be cumbersome when applying it right before makeup, as I’m afraid foundation would slide right off. It does absorb after a while, though, and for that reason I need to apply both in the morning and at night when I’m getting intense redness. On good days, I apply only once a day, but since I bought I haven’t had a day when I don’t wear it all.

When I bought it, I didn’t know that Allure has chosen this product as the “Best of Beauty” three times, but I can see why. It really does what it promises, plus it has no fragrance or soap, making it apt for the most sensitive of skins. Overall, I would highly recommend it!

Note: After writing this post, I came across this product for only 14€ in another store. I’ll leave my original rating up, but this means it would have a near perfect score!
